Elijah Williams hand-forges every Fire Creek Forge blade from 3/4″ round stock 52100 high carbon steel. First, he heats the raw bar past 1700°F. Then he shapes it entirely by hand at the anvil, so no two blades come out identical. The Buckthorn Wharncliffe carries his signature “Fire Creek Forge, Texas, USA” stamp on the ricasso.

Why 52100 Steel

52100 earns its reputation the hard way. It’s a hyper-eutectoid steel, so it carries more carbon than most high-carbon alternatives. That extra carbon lets Elijah push a properly aggressive heat treatment.

As a result, this blade resists abrasion and holds an edge longer than a typical carbon steel. Bearing makers originally developed 52100 for their own high-wear applications. That heritage tells you something about how well it handles sustained use.

A One-of-a-Kind Handle

This particular knife pairs that blade with a fordite resin composite handle. Fordite — sometimes called “Detroit agate” — began as layered automotive paint overspray. Over years of factory work, it hardened into a solid mass. Once cast into resin, it produces the swirling, marbled color bands you see here: greens, oranges, blues, and creams flowing through a topographic pattern. So no two fordite panels look alike, and this handle is genuinely one of a kind. Under UV light, the resin composite also glows, adding another layer to an already unique piece.

The knife comes complete with its maker’s Certificate of Authenticity and a fitted black sheath, ready to carry or display. Because this handle is cast from genuine fordite, this exact color pattern won’t be reproduced. So once it sells, it’s gone for good.
